Problem & Market Focus
Currently there is no standardized method to analyze population level microbiomics. The microbes in the human gut outnumber human cells 10:1, and they have tremendous impact on many aspects of human health and disease from development, to inflammatory disease, even to how cancer cells respond to pharmaceuticals. In order to address these issues, we need a robust and methodical approach to studying human-microbe crosstalk.
Technology & Value Proposition
Launched originally from University of Chicago research, the lead scientific founder moved to UCSD where he joined forces with a leading microbiome informatics researcher who joined the BiomeSense scientific advisory team. They have raised $5MM in investment capital and are currently raising an additional $5MM with an executed term sheet from a lead investor. There is a small number of working systems being used in microbiome research and the company is oversubscribed with demand for additional devices.
